Lewis Ishmael Griffis (92) was called to Glory June 18, 2018 in Harnett County, NC. "Mr. G" was born September 30, 1925 to parents Dall and Erna Spivey Griffis and grew up on their Willow Springs family farm with best friend and brother, Wayne Clifton Griffis. All have preceded him in passing including his son, Fred L. Griffis; great nephew, Steven Pittman; and first wife, Myrtle Welch Griffis. He is survived by son, Chester Griffis; grandchildren, Michael (Kandy), great grandsons Hunter and Spencer Griffis; Michelle Orndorff (Roger), and Robert (Jill), great grandson Rob Jr. and great granddaughter, Sidney Bree Griffis; neice , Sonja Bartlett (David) and their son, Jonathan; niece, Gwen Griffis, her son Nicholas Bryant and her daughter, Carmen Bryant. He was a devoted stepfather, grandfather, great grandfather, and brother in law. He was also a devoted and loving husband for 28 years to his high school crush, Miss Virginia Pollard Fuller Griffis (passed in August 2017) and was beloved by her family.
Lewis proudly served his country as an Army Veteran of WWII. He was a commercial plumber by trade and worked at Ft Bragg in Fayetteville. Lewis felt the call from the good Lord and did some evangelical preaching at churches off Hwy 50 and 210 many years ago. In his later years, he and several friends formed a gospel band. Lewis played the steel guitar and they would go to nursing homes in the Wake/Johnston area singing hymns and lifting spirits.
Mr. G loved animals, riding motor scooters, flying rc planes, watching Jimmy Swaggart, and reading his Bible.
Williford Funeral Home will provide a Graveside Service at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, Hwy 55 in Fuquay on Friday, June 22, 2018 at 11 AM, with Preacher Jimmy Boyd presiding and music by step-grandson, Jerry Fuller, Jr.
