Joseph (Joe) E. Turak Jr.January 12, 1940 ~ August 11, 2018 (age 78)
Joe Turak, 78, died peacefully surrounded by family on August 11, 2018 after a long battle with Myelofibrosis.
Joe was born in Trenton, NJ, to Joseph and Mary Turak. He is survived by his devoted wife of 48 years, Sharon, and three children: Joseph III and wife Emilie of Anchorage, AK; Brian of Ewing, NJ; and Stephanie Busi and husband Scott of Apex, NC. Joe will be remembered as a loving grandfather to Harrison, Elaina and Jackson. He is also survived by three sisters: Maryann Cochran of Falls Church, VA; Kathy Huston of Alexandria, VA; and Linda Brennan of Ewing Township, NJ; as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Joe graduated from Hamilton West High School, NJ and attended Rutgers University. He served in the US Army at Fort Still, OK, for two years, and then worked for the Howard Johnson company in several positions throughout NY, NJ, IL and D.C.
In 1979, Joe retired from Howard Johnson and remodeled an 1860s stagecoach inn near Princeton, NJ to become a successful steak and seafood restaurant called The Silo. Joe and his family operated this restaurant for 21 years. In 2000, he and Sharon retired and moved to Carolina Trace Country Club in Sanford, NC, to play golf every day. In 2013, age and health began to catch up with him, and he moved to Fuquay-Varina to be closer to his grandchildren. His great joys in life were Sharon, playing golf, rooting for the Phillies and Eagles, and his black lab Katie.
Joe & his family would like to thank the hard work of Dr. Van Deventer and his team, who did everything they could to give Joe six extra years after he became ill. The family is very grateful to all the doctors and nurses at the UNC Cancer Center for their exceptional care and compassion.
Arrangements are being made by Williford Funeral Home. The family requests any memorial contributions be made to UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center.
