Joseph Nicholas SucatoDecember 23, 1922 ~ November 9, 2015 (age 92)
Joseph Nicholas Sucato, 92, passed away Monday, November 9, 2015 in Fuquay-Varina, NC. He was born on December 23, 1922 in Poughkeepsie, NY to the late Giovanni and Agate Sucato.
In spite of many years of declining health, Joe always had a smile on his face, remained positive, optimistic and was an inspiration to those around him.
Joe honorably served his country in the US Army during World War II and was awarded the American Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, World War II Victory Medal, Philippines Liberation Ribbon, and Asiatic- Pacific Service Medal. Upon returning from war he married Mamie Rizzo of Chicago, IL on May 11, 1946. Joe worked as a stone mason, and started his own business Joseph N. Sucato Builders Inc. that constructed homes, industrial and commercial buildings throughout the Hudson Valley Region of NY for over 40 years. He and his wife moved to Cary, NC five years ago.
He is pre-deceased by eight siblings, James Sucato, Anna Rizzo, Josephine Amodeo , Rose Cappillino, Samuel Sucato, Connie Cappillino, Salvatore Sucato, and Polly Tremarco.
Joseph is survived by his wife of 69 years, Mamie Sucato, and his five daughters, Agnes Murphy and her husband Patrick, Marilyn Sucato, Gail Mechstroth and her husband David, JoMarie Holtshouser and her husband William, and Carol Sedewitz and her husband William, 9 grandchildren and 4 great- grandchildren.
A celebration of his life will be held on Sunday, November 15, 2015 at Williford Funeral Home, 201 East Academy Street, Fuquay-Varina, NC 27526 from 2:30 to 4:30pm.
A funeral mass will be held 11:00am, Monday November 16, 2015 at St. Bernadette Catholic Church 1005 Wilbon Road, Fuquay-Varina, NC 27526
